Scores will be obtained weekly from NHL.com every day and posted to the website. I will wait until the late morning to ensure the NHL has made all of the adjustments they need to.
Your lines for the following week will be submitted no later than Saturday night at 11:59 PM EST.
Failure to submit lines will result in using the same lines as last week.
Scoring disputes must be emailed to me within 1 week of the scores being posted. If you have a dispute, don't be an ass about it -- simply tell me why you feel a player or total score is incorrect and site a source refuting it (i.e. wrong addition on my part, a game was left out of a player's totals, etc)
Scores obtained from the NHL are official. If Yahoo or TSN have different numbers, tough nuggets, we're getting it straight from the source. Any discrepancies will balance out in the end, I'm not going to go around changing numbers every week because another site may or may not have correct numbers.
NOTE: My scoring script extracts scores based on player name as they're listed with NHL.com. I've done my best to populate the database accordingly, but keep an eye out for players that are getting less points than you think they should.
Every player will generate points in 3 categories. Offensive, defensive, and goaltending. The stats associated with these and the points earned for each stat are as follows:
Offensive:
Goals: 15 points
Assists: 12 points
PPG: +5 points
SHG: +10 points
SOG: 0.5 points
Faceoffs Won: 0.5 points
Faceoffs Lost: -0.5 points
Defensive:
Hits: 1 point
Takeaways: 2 points
Blocked Shots: 1 point
Plus Minus: +/- 3 per +/- point. (i.e. +9 is worth +27 points, -9 is worth -27 points)
Goaltending:
Goals Against: -5 points
Saves: 1 point
W/L/OTL: 10/0/5 points
Shutouts: +10 points
Each week your total offense will be calculated as the sum of all active players' offensive scores for the week. The same will be done for your team's defense and goaltending scores.
At the end of the week, your team's total score is represented as: Your Offense - Opponent's Defense - Opponent's Goaltending. Likewise, your defense and goaltending will be used to calculate your opponent's total score.
Whichever team between the two in a matchup has the higher total score receives a "win" for the week, with the other team earning a "loss". In the unlikely event that the two scores are equal, whoever had a higher offensive score receives a "win" with the other receiving an "overtime loss."
W/L/OTL records are kept and used for calculation of playoff eligibility.
The league will be divided into two conferences each year. Conferences may be randomly redrawn by majority vote every season.
You will play each team within your conference 3 times, totalling 15 games.
You will play each team outside of your conference 1 time, totalling 5 games.
The regular season lasts 21 games, which is a total of 21 weeks.
Playoffs will be determined as follows:
The top 3 teams (W/L/OTL points-wise) from each conference will be selected to advance to the playoffs. A tie for points in the 3rd-highest total results in determination by total ACTIVE PFHL points scored, then active offensive score totals.
The top seed in each conference has a bye week for the first week of the playoffs (Week 22) during which the lower 2 seeds will play against each other. If the top 2 seeds have the same number of points, resolve by above differentials.
The winner of Week 22 in each conference goes on to the conference finals against the top seed who previously had a bye week, in a game that takes place during Week 23.
The winner of Week 23 from each conference represents a conference champion and continues to the Cup. Week 24 allows them to go head-to-head and play for the championship.
Schedules will be determined by the Commissioner and posted on either the website or the message board.
Rosters may not exceed 17 active players with 4 prospects on the farm team.
A team without a legal roster by the start of the week (Sunday) automatically forfeits the game for that week.
Every week you will submit an "active roster" of 12 players:
2 LW
2 C
2 RW
4 D
2 G
In addition to your active roster, you may own 5 bench players and the rights of up to 4 prospects.
Prospects are defined as players who have played less than 25 NHL games and have been drafted by an NHL team.
If you wish to activate a prospect, send me a PM via the forums. I will activate him, and you in turn will need to drop someone or let me know if you'd like to send down a player who is eligible for prospect status. In either case, SOMEONE must move to make room for the prospect you're calling up.
Sending down a player as a prospect requires that he has played less than 25 career NHL games. PM me and I will make the move for you, but you must have room on your farm team (less than 4 players).
Injuries are maintained by each GM. To place someone on IR, simply log in and use the IR page reachable from the GM Info page. You may move players between active roster/injured reserve, but must provide a link to an article citing a player's injury. A player must be reported to be out for at least a week to be eligible for IR. If you have ineligible players on IR, then you will forfeit your next week.
When a player comes back from an injury in real life, you have until the beginning of the next matchup ONE WEEK from when he returns. I.e. if a player returns on tuesday, you have until the sunday following the NEXT tuesday to pull him off IR, make sure he's healthy, etc.
Any hoarding of players by signing/placing them on IR if they do not belong there will result in immediate forfeit of the upcoming game.
The draft will take place shortly after the NHL draft via our online system.
The draft will be based on the previous year's final rankings:
1st Overall Pick -- 7th seed (1st to miss playoffs)
2nd Overall Pick -- 8th seed (2nd to miss playoffs)
...
7th Overall Pick -- 1st eliminated from playoffs
8th Overall Pick -- 2nd eliminated from playoffs (with higher season points than above)
...
11th Overall Pick -- Loser of the Cup
12th Overall Pick -- Winner of the Cup
Reversing the standings for the first half encourages players to fight until the bitter end, and discourages intentionally sabotaging your team to get a better pick.
Before the draft, each team must submit a list of 8 players they wish to protect. In addition to your 8 players, you may retain the rights to 2 prospects for free. If you wish to keep your 3rd or 4th prospects, they will count against your 8 keeper limit.
Recent prospects may be entered onto protection lists in addition to those mentioned above in exchange for draft picks. The rules for this are listed below:
You must already be using all 8 of your original keeper spots.
Any player gaining exemption for this rule must have played 25+ NHL games. If he has played less than that, he counts as a prospect, and this system is meant to aid in development of players too old for prospect status.
The player may not have played more than 2 NHL seasons. An NHL season is defined as 45 games for skaters, and 30 games for goalies.
The player may not have scored 1300 PFHL points for the past year. This is beyond "intermediate development" and at this point they are a respectable, full-fledged player.
You must own the pick, or a higher one, specified by the scoring scale below in order to forfeit it to keep a player. I.e. if a 4th-round pick is required to keep a player, you must forfeit a 4th, 3rd, 2nd, or 1st rounder.
If you've acquired multiple picks for a round via trade, you may choose which to forfeit.
You may ONLY protect 2 players under this system per year.
The scales of which pick you must forfeit to retain a player are based on a player's point production for the year. Depending on how many points a player scores during the year, he will require this level of pick to keep:
5th Round: 0-550 points
4th Round: 551-775 points
3rd Round: 776-900 points
2nd Round: 901-1050 points
1st Round: 1051-1300 points
All players NOT on protection lists are entered into the upcoming draft, along with players drafted in the recent NHL draft.
Drafting will be done via our online system reachable from the GM Info page.
GM's will draft in the order described above, and the order will reflect trades made.
When it is your turn to pick you will have 12 hours to submit your pick, otherwise it will expire and the process moves along without you.
When drafting, you may select a free agent from the selection box if he exists in the database.
If he does NOT exist in the database, you may add him via the text box at the bottom. NOTE: scoring is done based on NHL.com spelling. Misspelling a name or redrafting someone who's been taken will result in forfeiting your pick.
After submitting your pick, make sure the next person in line knows. Automated email may or may not work, you'll know if it doesn't.
At the conclusion of the draft, all free agents will be placed on waivers.
Waiver priority may or may not be determined by extra circumstances (missed picks, etc.) at the discretion of the league. Otherwise it is the reverse of the draft order.
I put a lot of time and work into the webpage. Abuse, vandalization, or theft of this site will result in disciplinary and/or legal action at my discretion. Any attempts to tamper with data will result in dismissal from the league.
The forums are free and are to be used responsibly. Spamming, using it to host personal files, etc. are not allowed -- your actions may affect the entire league and it would be unfair for us to lose the forums because we went over bandwidth or violated TOS for the forums
Ads on our pages are meant to generate revenue for the league. Revenue may result in better webhosting (faster loads, better functionality, more space, shorter address), league prizes, or just money for me for all of my time and effort. Regardless, don't abuse the ads. Click on them, by all means, because that's what they're there for. But no click fraud will be tolerated, and WILL negatively impact the rest of us in the league.
Exploiting bugs will not be tolerated. As stated, I made this webpage and I'm confident in its operation. Naturally, there will be bugs -- there always are in software. If you find a bug it's your duty to me and the league to report it ASAP (privately, preferably). God help you if you use it for your own good.
